Climate change and the environment are interconnected and interdependent, with climate change being a major threat to environmental health and sustainability. Climate change, driven by human activities like burning fossil fuels and deforestation, leads to a variety of environmental impacts, including rising global temperatures, shifts in weather patterns, and disruptions to ecosystems. These changes can have severe consequences for human health, biodiversity, and the availability of resources like water and food.

The environment and climate action are also deeply intertwined. Protecting the environment is crucial for mitigating climate change, and climate action efforts are essential for ensuring a sustainable and healthy environment. By reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable practices, we can lessen the impacts of climate change, which in turn benefits ecosystems and the planet.

In relation to this, during the strategic plan 2025 done at University of Nairobi on 6th May, Team environment Kenya rolled out the targeted number of 15 Billion trees which need to be planted by year 2032 reiterating that 12 millions should be planted in a year, 1 million in a month and by doing so the target shall be achieved.

With the presence of team Lead of the Team Environment Kenya TEK Mathew Ochanda, the implementation plan states that by October of this year, 20,000 trees should have been planted and their growth expedition illustrated clearly to what is mentioned as a way of achieving the goal to turn and paint the whole country green.

After a brief discussion with Ochanda, it is now clear that their motive is to mobilize, engage youths, restore our natural heritage and getting to the old times of being purely surrounded by fresh air thus creating green safe space for the community.

An achievement as noted so far under his leadership, is that thousands of trees have been planted, countless lives have been educated, and environmental stewardship has become a national conversation which is believed to be the power of grassroots leadership with a global vision.
