World champion and record breaker Ferdinand Omanyala is not just running for gold—he’s running for a greener future. In partnership with the TBL Go Green Foundation, Omanyala is championing sustainability through sports by promoting tree planting, clean energy, and climate education.

The magnitude of climate change is arguably best depicted in the fact that most aspects of life are altered by it. The sports industry, one of the most popular forms of entertainment across the entire world, is no different. Climate action plays a critical role in sports affecting everything; from operations , infrastructure, athletes performance and even fan engagement.

Climate change affects sports directly, for example; extreme heat, flooding and air pollution. With this , the health of the sportsman and the fans are endangered. Air pollution a factor that has significant effects on sports,  impact negatively on the fan base, performance of the sportsmen which also affects the nation record in the sports field.

Despite climate action impact on sports, it also plays a big role in mentoring sportsmen, fans and even the society especially, the interaction between the party and the greener environment thus making them mentally stable.

The role of climate action in sports has different aspects. It is all about reducing the environmental impacts, leading by example and mobilizing fans and communities for global change. The sportsmen call for action includes ensuring events are more sustainable through renewable energy, waste reduction and eco-friendly infrastructure.

A very good example is that of  Omanyala foundation whose aim is to leave green as a legacy through engagement of his fans worldwide, formation of environmental conversations and educating the society on the importance of moving to the green world.

All these can be achieved by planting trees in schools and institutions and also by educating people on the real meaning of climate action.

Tabby Nashipae, a sports journalist and a representative of the Omanyala foundation encourages everyone to be responsible for the environment by always reminding them that, "the true meaning of life is planting a tree whose shade  you will not enjoy."
